1. Acetate Print

materials. Acetate Print, green screenprinting paper, bleach, watered down acrylic

size9.5 x 10.5 cm

presentedPinned to surface- left to hang

aboutSmall acetate print using a photo taken of London (St Pauls Cathedral) from the Tate Modern- printed onto green screenprinting paper. Areas have been bleached and reworked into with watered down acrylic paints

2. Cardboard

size13.5 x 16.9 cm

presentedUnframed and stuck to surface

aboutDamaged piece of cardboard (found material) used for colour and texture but also a background for the film loop.

3. Film Projection

materials. Bleached 16mm film loop

sizeApproximately 8 seconds of footage looped

presentedProjected using EIKII Elf 16mm Sound Projector- on a small scale

aboutFound footage 16mm film loop of workers. The film has been looped and bleached in places allowing for bright white flashes across the projection. The nostalgia of the film strip adds a quality to the group and an almost need to remember

4. Found material

materials. Damaged screenprinting paper left in a recycling bin

size8 x 9.5 cm

presentedUnframed and stuck to surface

aboutSmall textured piece of found material. The textures feel similar to those bleached marks in the film loop, the photograph but especially the cardboard. the revealing of layers in particular looks to be forceful, in a moment of panic or rage.

5. Photograph

materials. Disposable camera photograph, spray glue, masking tape

size15 x 10 cm

presentedUnframed and stuck to surface with masking tape

aboutBlack and white, disposable camera photograph (taken on Ilford Single use Camera XP2 C41). Layers of spray glue were applied over the top of the reasonably simple photograph, adding texture.

1. Acetate Print

materials. Acetate Print (A7), inks, cream paper and masking tape

size20.8 x 14 cm

presentedStuck to surface with masking tape and left to hang

aboutSmall acetate print in the middle of ripped cream paper. The image is of a high rise London and was repeatedly printed adding a detailed yet blurred image

2. Damaged 35mm Slide

materials. Under exposed, 35mm Slide

size5 x 5 cm

presentedUnframed and stuck to surface

aboutThe film slides emulsion was purposely damaged and scratched that when against the wall is the only markings that would be shown

3. Canvas

materials. Ripped canvas, ink, tracing paper, plastic and a pin

size14.2 x 6 cm

presentedThere is a pin through the canvas at the top of the material, which sticks to the surface- made to look as if the needle is holding it up

aboutSmall ripped canvas piece with layers of inks built up. Tracing paper is stuck on and torn in areas with layers of melted plastic over the top as well. The piece feels heavy on process and it's really interesting to see what people interpret from this piece. Some have said its glass, light, paint

4. Super 8 Film Projection

materials. Super 8 film of Hartland Quay in Devon

size11 x 14 cm - Approximately 11 minutes of footage

presentedProjected using Eumig Super 8 501 Projector onto bottom of cream paper, part of canvas and surface

aboutSuper 8 to me is the closet thing contextually to a memory because of the quality of the film. The image isn't the best, the colours are a bit washed out and there is no sound but they feel dreamlike and nostalgic. Super 8 was popular in the late 60s and early 80s making it feel like a memory making device. This film is one from my family background and means a lot to me. I haven't damaged the film at all it is used for projection and its qualities. It's calming, soothing and contrasts against the harsh other pieces in this group

1. Damaged 35mm Slide

materials. 35mm Film slide

size10 x 5 cm

presentedUnframed, layers opened and stuck to wall

aboutDamaged family owned 35mm film slide. The cardboard framing layer has been opened revealing the glue layers. The small film frame sits in the middle and is slightly illuminated when the projection shines on it, showing the image slightly. The green cardboard and glue feels dark and sits in this dark coloured, toned group

2. Photograph

materials. Disposable camera photograph

size15 x 10 cm

presentedUnframed and stuck to surface

aboutBlack and white, disposable camera photograph (taken on Ilford Single use Camera XP2 C41). The grey, almost mistake photo feels similar to the damaged photo in this group.

3. Photograph

materials. Disposable camera photograph

size15 x 10 cm

presentedUnframed and stuck to surface

aboutBlack and white, disposable camera photograph (taken on Ilford Single use Camera XP2 C41). The image shows movement and abstraction on a black and white level.

4. Damaged Photograph

5. Polaroid Photograph

materials. Polaroid photograph (using iType film), taken on OneStep 2 Camera

size10.8 x 8.8 cm

presentedUnframed and stuck to surface- over the two photographs in this group

aboutFailed Polaroid photo which just shows darkness.

6. 16mm Film Projection

materials. Scratched and Drawn on 16mm Film stock loop

sizeApproximately 7 seconds of footage looped

presentedProjected using EIKII Elf 16mm Sound Projector- on a small scale- approximately 53 cm away from the group and surface

aboutA 16mm cameraless film projection where I have scratched marks into the film stock and also drawn onto it in places with coloured marker pens: therefore there are red hues and smudges over the marks and film. At the end of the film loop there is a millisecond of found footage (around 10 frames), that has been scratched and marked upon and spliced onto the end. There is abstraction and realistic image. The loop is played on the areas of he grouping- onto the Polaroid, and the disposable camera photo: which has resulted in the film to appear different colours in an almost gradient affect across the grouping.

1. 35mm Slide Projection

materials. 30 35mm film slides, Slide Projector and Zoom lens

size30 slides at approximately 5 seconds shown and then repeated

presentedProjected to surface using a KODAK EKTAPRO 5020 slide projector, KODAK EKTAPRO FF Zoom lens with the slides in a carousel tray

aboutI curated a sequence of images using 35mm slides. SOme of these are damaged and scratched, revealing scrapping colours from the removed emulsion. Some are from past family holidays, key moments in my families past and others are found and are there for aesthetic. Some have been damaged through scratching, burning, water damage and some have holes in them. The images are projected above the rest of the group.

2. Damaged 35mm Slide

materials. Under exposed, 35mm Slide

size10 x 5 cm

presentedUnframed and stuck to surface, showing the layers

aboutThe film slide has been opened up revealing the cardboard and paper layers. The image is hard to see all the time but when wither the super 8 projection or slide projection flickers onto it, parts are visible.

3. Acetate Print

materials. Acetate print on white paper

size10 x 10 cm

presentedStuck onto the tracing paper

aboutAcetate print using a photo taken of London and St Pauls Cathedral from the Tate Modern. The image is printed onto thin rubbed textured paper. Water is built into areas on top, allowing for colours to run

4. Tracing Paper

size17 x 15 cm

presentedStuck to the surface with tape.

aboutReasonably large piece of tracing paper which becomes visible when light is shone over it in areas showing blurred textures.

5. Super 8 Projection

materials. Found Super 8 film

sizeApproximately 4 minutes long

presentedProjected using an Eumig 501 Projector onto the Bedroom wall

aboutFound footage is damaged: scratched, drawn on, bleached and overall under-exposed. Some framed have nothing on and just show the dust and light from the projector. Feels like a haunting projection. The group is projected and set up in my childhood bedroom- a more personal setting to some of the other pieces
